Droid 2 questions

Postby droidage » Mon Sep 06, 2010 7:35 am

Hello, I'm brand new to the Droid 2 (and to smart phones in general). Can someone point me to a place to get help please? For starters, I have a few questions:

1. The vibrator runs each time a top-level system button is pressed. None of the system menu options allow me to turn this off. I don't want any feeback when I push these buttons, especially feedback that wastes battery usage. Does anyone know how to turn it off?

2. I downloaded a ringtone (I created a clip from a song). Each time I get a phone call, the words "VERIZON WIRELESS" speaks in the middle of the tune. why does this happen? Can I turn that off?

Thanks for any help!

1. In the display settings should be the option to turn off haptic feedback.

2. Try switching to a pre-loaded ringtone and see if it still does it. If not, try using a different clip.

Thanks for the help. I already tried turning off haptic feedback. The feedback indeed is turned off for everything EXCEPT the system buttons. The more I attempt to find a solution, the more convinced I am that this is a design flaw/oversight.

It doesn't make sense that one of the most battery killing components in the device is activated every time the most common buttons are pressed, with no way to turn this behavior off. I'm baffled by this.

As for the ringtone, I ran some tests and the Verizon adverstisement is gone... beats me. thanks!

As for the Verizon advertisement...was it an ad or just saying "Verizon Wireless" about 1 second into the ringtone?

If it was that, you can check in sounds for "call connect, network lost tone, or roaming alert" I can't remember which but one of them puts those words into the ringtone

Thank you for the response. It must have been one ot the options you stated. I've since change several options and the verizon advert is gone. I have no idea how but am glad it is.

Still looking for a solution to the inability to turn off haptic feedback (HF). Not only can I not turn off the HF for the system buttons, I am unable to turn it off for the slide lock. The haptic feedback menu option myseriously does not do what it says.

Is it my phone, or is this the behavior of others as well? Can you turn haptic feedback on/off for the system soft keys and slide lock on your phone?

Let me charge up/turn on my D2 and see what it does. Are you running .20 code?

I'm still angry that I can't get rid of the "focus tones" of the camera...

I recently bought a Droid 2 and I have the same problem with the haptic feedback so I suppose its good to hear that its a common problem amongst other D2 users haha.

But yes I have haptic feedback turned off and yet my soft keys still vibrate each time I press them, including the slide to unlock as well. It also vibrates every time I move things around on my homescreens, regardless if I use stock or LauncherPro.

Also, I power off the unit to save battery life. But when I power it off, the system software activates the vibrator for about a second. LOL This is just too funny! I can't power it off without draining the battery even more! It's seems the Droid 2 product team has some kind of mysterious relationship with the vibrator. lol

I sure like the soft keyboard interface though... works flawlessly for me. I've found I never need the physical keyboard.

I've also found the soft keyboard to be really nice. I use the Swype input method and draw the attention of others (that and the fact that it's also the R2-D2 version--yeah!) when they see me skating my texts across the soft keyboard. I'm only reminded that I even have the slide-out keyboard when I hand the phone to someone else to show it off, and they comment on how heavy it is.

I've had the thing almost a month and would love to know how to kill the haptic feedback. I too agree that it works very well with the onscreen keyboard and other functions, but I don't want it constantly turned on. I find I have to force myself to use the slideout keyboard for typing as the on-screen keys work very well, however, when I do use the qwerty it is far more efficent than the touch screen. All things aside, how does one turn off the vibration feature completely?
