Verizon letting me out of my contract! What to do?!?!

So,
I live in Los Angeles...
I don't live in the mountains, I don't live underground, but at my house, and in the area, I have ZERO service.
I am lucky if I have the 1x on my service.
My GF and I both have the droid X.
I love the phone, she hates it.
(She isn't very techy, and the DX is a great phone, but for someone that is a noob, not the best)

That is my observation, I could be wrong, but whatever.

I have gone back and forth with VZW and they told me that due to "marginal service" in my area, they would release me from my contract.
I pay about $230 a month for both our lines.

What to do>?
Where to go?
What device?

When friends with other carriers come over what kind of signal are they receiving?

See if they will comp you a 3g range extender.
I know AT&T has done it for some of their customers.
