Just got a new Droid X

My original Droid that I rooted was going haywire, the touch screen was unresponsive and would control itself at times. I tried unrooting it and setting it to factory settings to see if this would fix the problem, but it didnt. So a little over a week ago, I had to get a Droid X, been kind of nervous on rooting it due to being a nervous nelly lol. So im just trying to find out the easiest way to root the phone myself without having to pay for any apps, any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I did search the forums and the site for some answers but I am also looking for opinions on methods and which rom to run, used to run Sapphire on my original Droid.
