By now we are all familiar with the Motorola and Verizon OTA update process by now. On the first day, one to 3,000 will receive the first waive as a means to test that the update will work with the rest of the masses. After that first 24 hour testing period the update rolls out to more with that additional number repeating each day until everyone has received it.

If today by chance was the first day I think it would be safe to assume the update would roll out over the air to the smaller number first without the ability to force it to your phone until at least after the first 24 hour period.

GreatOne: that's probably true for non-blur phones but the x has the "pull" update feature which means that anyone can download the update from the server/source once it's publicly available. no waiting game necessary. :)

edit: ahhh matrix beat me to it!

Understandable where you're coming from since that is what Verizon has done in the past when it comes to OTA updates. However, this time they are easily showing that you can pull the update.

They can't restrict who can and can't "pull" the update once they release it even if they "push" the update to only certain people.

It's great that we can finally actually WATCH for the (now) 2.3.15 update, instead of the endless waiting with no word. Very exciting! For a while, it seemed like maybe there might not even be an update ... as improbable as that might seem. Now we can move on...

Pull updates can definitely happen with Blur phones. The update obviously has to be made available first which might not be until Wednesday.

With the Incredible official update, you could download it (from Google I think it was) and side load it. Is this typical for most updates? Or is this something that will only happen after a user has gotten the update and posted it for us to download?

so is it analog or digital? Also, will it come with a leather wristband or one of those geeky velcro ones?

I'm on leaked 2.2 so I'll be waiting to see what the state of rooting is in the official OTA.

With Obsidian coming on leaps and bounds, this may all be moot.

I guess they weren't kidding about "End of Summer", like literally end of summer. lol

Well, just glad we'll all be getting Android 2.2 in a matter of 24 hours(hopefully). Really cannot wait...have been looking forward to it since I heard about it.

Yeah!

EDIT: I just checked and Blur is not pulling in the update just yet, but maybe later tonight, or tomorrow when 2.2 actually goes live. Hell yeah!

I wonder what will happen if everyone tries to pull the upload at the same time... maybe one of those Super Bowl halftime toilet flush moments?

I'm sorry guys I should have made myself more clear in what I meant. I am fully aware of blur phones being able to pull updates. I just have my personal doubts about VZW allowing anyone to pull updates in the first 24 hours of release. Typically that time is set aside to test the roll out for a few thousand phones typically to VZW employees. I do feel it should work after that though without a problem. Can you imagine the forum community of DX users all pulling the update and bricking their phones? There would be a revolt.

Assuming I have to downgrade to 2.1 (which I'm prepared to do), how do I retain the data from all my apps? I have root but I imagine NANDROID won't work as it backs up system files too, which would change.

I'm talking downloaded apps, elements in Alchemy, WWDiary (weight watcher points app), other apps' configurations and data, etc, etc! I don't want to lose it!
