My update is being downloaded NOW. I did a manual request and it worked.

Dang I was too slow to post that it is live...... I knew I should have kept the computer on....

Edit: It is everything I have ever dreamed of and more.... Though I do have two new apps of Quickoffice and VZ Navigator. The nav I may not have noticed before, but I know I didn't have Quickoffice.....

Installing now. w00t! Will post comments and observations as they happen...

Root Status:
- Lost root going from rooted stock 2.1
- But that's alright...
regain your root using the same method as for the Droid2: http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorol ... 2-ota.html
OR try the new, easier method on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782556

Other notes:
- Based on a market search of "US Bank" it seems the "full market" isn't being shown as with the leaked builds
- The Flash Player 10.1 build that comes with the OTA is actually not the most recent version. Hit the market for version 10.1.95.1
- The included Gmail app is also not the most recent version. 2.3 is available on the market.

Performance:
- 1381 Quadrant

Pull upgrading definitely works, I started the d/l about two hours ago. So close to installation, sitting at 98% downloaded now.

Here's what I've noticed so far.

Swype seems to be updated, doesn't do periods when auto spacing anymore. Probably the same as leaked 2.2 though.

Camera app updated, you can take pictures by tapping the shutter icon on the screen without using the dedicated camera button.

Flash heavy sites are pretty slow on the default setting. I would suggest setting it to on demand.

Battery manager now has a custom battery saver option. Looks like a cross between Smart mode and the old battery saver mode, just a tad more options.

First Quadrant run was 1380ish, second was 1455. No Stagefright or any other build.prop tweaks. Overall it seems more smooth, but not a huge difference from before.

Speaker seems louder, but still not as loud as the Droid.

Up and running with rooted OTA Froyo, coming from a rooted and bootstrapped leaked Froyo.

1) SBFed back to .604
2) Rooted 2.1 using Universal Androot. Ended up being pointless as even though I moved the su binary to /system/xbin which worked fine with the leaked 2.2, I lost root.
3) Pulled OTA 2.2 update and installed
4) Used the Droid 2 one-click root mentioned above ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782556 ) to root 2.2.

Took a little over an hour for the whole process. Let the fun begin!

I pulled my update down manually after midnight... seems like everything is fine.

One thing that appears to be fixed is the text and contact speed. I had one of the units where text messaging and contacts loaded really slow... it's now where it should be. So happy that's fixed.

All of my other settings seem fine.

Very happy so far!

Pulled the update at 5:05am CST and all is well. Volume seems to be a little louder, probably loud enough for my needs. "Feels" snappier. Don't like the theme change in Swype, but it's still functional (which is to say that I love it!). The unlock screen is cooler and faster.

Now watch as the guys at the Verizon forum argue over whether to call the upgrade 2.2 or 2.3. I know it's officially 2.2, but the firmware screen says 2.3-something. I mentioned 2.3 off-handedly and I was ripped for it. Long sigh, it never changes, does it...

You can now tap the icons in contacts to bring up short cuts to various ways to get ahold of that contact.Pretty nice

Any fees for using VZ Navigator? I had it on my Dare and it was the best routing. The interface is much worse than google maps, but it never tried to send me on bizarre routes like google maps does routinely.

I got it, but why don't I have the same dedicated buttons that google shows on the Android 2.2 web site? I had a droid 1 once, and it got these with the 2.20 update.

I want those same dedicated buttons: Phone, Apps, and Browser. Ideas?

About how long should it take to download? It's been going an hour and it's in the background so I have no idea what it's doing or if it's stuck or something. This is over my work wifi - should be fast. How can I tell?

ETA: I turned off my work wifi and the download started. Sometimes I have trouble using google services here.

Because you are looking at a stock Android screen, and the Droid X does not ship with the Stock Home. Easiest way to get it would be to download LauncherPro (seriously... it rocks), then it will look and work as you expect (and then some).

Personally, I'm just happy that the wait is over. I got mine at 0337 CST this morning and I haven't been able to put it down since. It's amazing just how much stuff works better (or works at all) now that the update is in (w/Flash of course). I'm not qualified to comment on if it was worth the wait because I'm still a NOOB and still learning the X. All I know is that the update is now in place and since there probably won't be another one for a loooooooonnnnnnggg time, I'll probably root it sometime next month and begin experimenting with all the fun stuff that you guys have been posting about.

espn3 works on the droidx! It takes a while to get it playing (on Wifi) and it takes even longer to get it full screen but once it starts to play it is almost watchable. It plays ok for a while then it drops to 2 fps for a short while. Sound is great.

so far so good. Speed feels the same to me. Exchange now forces me to use a PIN instead of the pattern lock (I need to talk to the mail team about that). Auto updating apps is awesome.
