Tablet decisions/choices...

Postby Gritchu » Mon Jul 02, 2012 9:16 am

Hi gang,

Recently my apartment was broken into and I've had several devices stolen from me. :( However, my renters insurance cut me a rather nice check to cover the losses and I've decided that purchasing a shiny new tablet will help chase the blues away.

Now, before you all groan and think "Great, another which tablet should I buy thread" I wanted to say I hope this thread can be a bit more than that. I am hoping to get some honest opinions, personal experiences, any meaningful comparisons that you all have picked up on both the devices I've been considering and any others you feel might fit the bill. For now, lets pretend price isn't an option.

I like to use tablets for reading, specifically graphic novels. I had a Nook tablet and found the screen to be a bit small. Perhaps this has to do with the resolution of the screen or just the size of the screen, but it didn't scale the pages down well at all and text looked ugly when turned portrait.

I also enjoy going online, watching videos, listening to music, taking photos and writing things down (I'm an artist, so I try to capture things that inspire me), but I don't play games much on them. I prefer my Xbox and PC. I would like to eventually use the tablet to control more things around my house, such as my DVR (comcast sucks, I can't get a supported DVR through them yet), and anything I get I'd like to last a couple years and still be considered good and have a high likely hood of being supported.

I've been eyeing the Asus Transformer Infinity, and since it's announcement, the Nexus 7. Please share your thoughts and reasoning behind them.

Thanks guys!
