Droid X random restarts and other problems

Droid X random restarts and other problems

Postby Theowb4 » Tue Aug 31, 2010 1:19 pm

I switched from a Droid to a Droid X the day it came out, and have been loving it. However, it does have a fair amount of problems that didn't occur with my original droid. Two of these are listed below
1) It randomly resets itself, usually when I receive a call or a text, but sometimes it just happens randomly for no apparent reason. This has happened since I purchased it, and before I rooted it.

2) The Battery Use page in the settings doesn't work properly. This is also a problem I had since I first received the device. I used to love the "battery use" section of my original Droid. But on my droid X, it doesn't work properly. It only shows 2 things in it, and those are Display, Cell Standby, and Phone Idle. the percents also add up to 101% at all times. The amounts rarely change by 1-5%. Other apps that I use don't appear, either. This was a problem since I received it, even before installing ATK.

My Droid X is currently running stock 2.1 Eclair, and is rooted. I've also installed Advance Task Killer. For rooted apps, I have drocap2 and wireless tether for root users.

For the resets, a factory reset should help that as much as it sucks. But I had that on my Droid 1 and that's what helped. Two buddy's of mine have the X and had to do the same. I've never had the issue since getting the X personally.

As for the battery use, i'm not sure, mine force closes on me any time I try to open it, It worked for about a week then stopped, even after flashing an sbf once, it worked again for a few days then randomly stopped, so I can't help much there.

I just got my DX 2 days ago and haven't seen a random restart at all. Maybe you need to do a warranty exchange? Seems like the first production run of any new electronic device tends to have problems.

The first week or so I had my DX it would resest randomly, but only once or twice a day. After that first week, it stopped randomly resetting. It wouldn't shut all the way down, but it would go to the red eye and then start from there.

If it's doing it several times a day, and has been for several days, I would return it to the store.

As for the battery manager, I'm not sure that it shows other applications. I have heard a lot of people mention that they go to about->battery or something similar to see applications, but all I can think of is that they must have a different Droid phone. I see the same options: cell standby, phone idle, and display.

I did learn that you can go to the dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#* and it will take you to a "testing" menu that has an option for "battery history". You can check out CPU usage and Network usage to find apps that are resource hogs. The main culprits on my phone are Beautiful Widgets and Dictionary.com. I had a Weather Channel widget previously that ate up a whole lot of network usage and ran down my battery time, and the only way I figured out it was the weather channel widget was from this method.

I'm having the same problem you used to, about the same amount of times per day. But it has continued since I got it, which was the day before launch. And tyvm for the battery history thing, the only real battery hog on mine is "motorola Services". I can't wait to load a custom, non-blur rom!
